We'd love this place even if it weren't for the gorgeous bayside view. They serve great food and inspired original cocktails, and they run their own craft brewery, coffee roastery and gin distillery on premises. When the weather is nice you can enjoy the fresh ocean breezes out on their waterfront terrace.
The food menu focuses on casual American classics, among them some of the crunchiest fried chicken we've come across in Japan. BBQ ribs, "Platinum" pork and swordfish are prepared in a Spanish Josper charcoal oven where they are simultaneously grilled and smoked. Sandwich options include avocado toast with mortadella, pastrami with melted cheese, Cuban sandwiches with pork carnitas, and a range of burgers, both regular and smash-style.
If you just want snacks to go with your beers or cocktails, there's a tempting selection of tapas-style dishes like garlic shrimp, yellowtail crudo, and four-cheese nachos with chili con carne. Quays' "Salmon Collection" features five varieties of smoked salmon, with three- and five-part sampler plates that let you compare their flavors.
The Number Nine Brewery, located on the restaurant's first floor, offers seven beers and one cider on tap. Beers come in three sizes, and four-part tasting flights are available, as are a few beer-based mixed drinks.
Siphon coffee from their Hammerhead Roastery is made with your choice of a half-dozen or so single-origin beans. Cafe Rebujito (home-made orange liqueur, sherry, amaretto, tonic, coffee) is one of several original cocktails incorporating their coffee. They also offer seasonal cocktails like the Pear & Jasmine Martini and the whisky-based Strawberry Chocolat, as well as eight different mocktails.
Quays' kitchen is open all afternoon, so you can drop by anytime you're hungry (or thirsty). The full menu is ready all day, but there are some lunchtime side-dish specials served before 2:30pm. It's worth either reserving or waiting for seats in the main dining room on the second floor, where you can enjoy a lovely view of the Minato-Mirai area and Tokyo Bay. Budget around Y5,000-7,000 for dinner with drinks, or Y1,500-3,000 for lunch.
[Access: Yokohama Hammerhead is a 13-minute walk or a quick cab ride from Bashamichi Station; there are also buses that run every twenty minutes. When leaving, taxis are available from the entrance of the InterContinental Hotel.]
