Among the handful of shops preparing Hawaiian plate lunches for take-out, the biggest, most diverse menu we've found is here at Maikai Kitchen, located in a narrow alleyway on the island of Tsukishima. The main draw is their lineup of a dozen types of poke, ranging from lomi-lomi salmon and maguro yukke to ahi jalapeno and ebi garlic.
You can order poke or other items from the deli case as a main bento ingredient, or a la carte in 100mg increments. There's a similar arrangement for hot dishes - with a dozen or so options such as Mushroom-Cheese Pork, Garlic Shrimp, Mochiko Chicken and Spam Loco Moco. Customize your bento with add-on toppings like fried mahi-mahi, kimchi, Spam and scrambled eggs.
The shop may be closed on days other than Sundays and Mondays, so check their Instagram (@maikaikitchen) for their calendar if you're coming from far away.
