If you have a craving for a Hawaiian plate lunch and you're in the Tsukiji area, Island Plate Lunch should be on your radar. The kitchen turns out credible versions of traditional favorites like Garlic Shrimp, Loco Moco, Poke, Spicy Ahi, Spicy Salmon, Honey Chicken, and Spam Egg. There are more than a dozen main items to choose from, as well as combo plates featuring two main dishes.
Each plate comes with rice, macaroni salad and steamed broccoli. Plates are typically priced at Y1,000-1,500, with specials at lunchtime (11:30am-2pm). Malasada (Portuguese-style fried doughnuts) make a nice mid-afternoon snack, and drinks include Kona beer, Hawaiian Sun fruit sodas, Lion coffee and juice.
A recent combo plate of Mochiko Chicken and Garlic Shrimp really hit the spot. Plump, juicy shrimp were drenched in an assertive garlic sauce, complemented by tender chunks of well-seasoned chicken. The Spicy Ahi and Spicy Salmon are also quite appetizing.
Island Plate's indoor dining area is long and narrow, with about a dozen seats, supplemented by a dozen more outdoor seats in front of the shop. They also do take-out and delivery; delivery hours are 10am-8pm.
