Low Non Bar is a fancy mocktail bar that serves original, very inventive cocktails containing either no booze or very little - hence the name. Despite the absence of alcohol, these are serious Tokyo cocktails, artfully assembled and served with panache. The picturesque bar occupies part of a century-old converted train station, with just nine indoor seats and one outdoor table for two.
You can choose from non-alcoholic versions of classic cocktails (Bloody Marys, Mojitos, Moscow Mules) or elaborate original cocktails like the Blanc (non-alcoholic wine, Chinese tea, shiso and cucumber) or the namesake Non-Low-Bar (a "shrub" cocktail of drinking vinegars flavored with various berries, spices and herbs). For adventurous drinkers we can recommend the Wabi-Sabi - a nicely balanced concoction of non-alcoholic sake, chocolate and a fair bit of wasabi, served with a huge rectangular chunk of ice that's coated in silver leaf.
Snacks are typical fancy-bar fare - our cheese plate came in dainty cocktail-bar-size portions, but at least the cheeses (brie and compte among them) were above average. Olives, dried fruits, mixed nuts and chocolates are some of the other choices, and they also offer a mixed sausage plate if you want something meaty.
Drinks are reasonably priced considering the time and labor that goes into making them - cocktails start at Y1200, while non-alcoholic beers and wines are Y800-900. All in all, Low-Non-Bar is a relaxed, offbeat place to start an evening out, whether or not you move on to stronger drinks at your next stop.
