J.S. Lennup has been serving German beers and food under the Hibiya Yamanote train tracks since 1978, so it's only appropriate that they should take their place in Hibiya Okuroji, the flashy new under-the-tracks shopping complex. This mini-branch of Lennup serves traditional German beers from breweries like Bitburger, Erdinger, Jever, Kostritzer and Tucher along with an extensive food menu. They even serve four kinds of schnapps.

Hearty, traditional German stews seem to make up most of the menu, along with numerous sausages from around the country. In addition to the cozy dining room there are a few outdoor tables overlooking the busy corridor of the shopping complex. German bread and pastries are ready to take out. Budget around Y3,500 for food and drink at dinnertime.

(If you're looking for something less traditional, the Hibiya Okuroji complex also houses a branch of the popular modern-German restaurant chain Schmatz just a minute or two north of here.)
