Hokkaido soup-curry shops are known for offering an impressive variety of soup styles, main curry ingredients and toppings, and Sama is no exception. First of all there are five different soups - tomato, coconut, shrimp, creamy shrimp (with soy milk) and Japanese dashi stock - and these can all be fine-tuned with spice levels anywhere from zero to thirty.

Main ingredients include braised chicken leg, tandoori chicken with minced pork, Hamburg steak, pork gyoza dumplings, and pork kakuni, the last of which is particularly recommended. You can also choose from 27 optional toppings, ranging from deep-fried burdock to scallops and cube steak. Beers from North Island, arguably Hokkaido's best craft brewery, are Y850 per bottle for pilsner, weizen or brown ale.
