Ageha
Umeda: Kushiage
Ageha
Open 11:30am-2:30, 5-10pm (LO) daily.
Sun: Open Sundays

Ageha isn't super-fancy, but they turn out reliable, good-quality kushiage skewers at reasonable prices. There are four prix-fixe menus at both lunch and dinner, with somewhat more premium ingredients as the price level rises. Most full meals comprise eight or ten skewers of vegetables, seafood and meats, plus soup, rice, pickles and dessert.

Ingredients are lightly coated before deep-frying, and maintain their fresh flavors. Some highlights are the salmon topped with tartar sauce, fish wrapped in bacon and shiso, and giant asparagus spears. The tangy Kyoto-style pickles served alongside are first rate.

In addition to the usual beer and shochu cocktails, Ageha offers nine wines by the glass and a dozen more by the bottle, starting at under Y4,000. Prix-fixe dinner menus are priced from under Y4,000 as well, or you can order by the piece.
