Scandinavian-inspired open-face sandwiches are a novel lunchtime offering, and Smorrebrod Kitchen assembles them in three varieties - roast beef, shrimp and egg with roast vegetables, and chicken with roast vegetables. All sandwiches come with soup, salad and a drink for a fully balanced meal, with mini desserts and seasonal fruit sodas (with real whole fruit) available as add-ons.

In the mornings there's a lighter breakfast menu from 9-11am, while dessert and coffee are available all afternoon, until they close at 5pm.

The cafe is located inside the Nakanoshima Library building (hence the early hours), and the interior decor takes advantage of the mid-century architecture and book-centered theme to create a cozy ambience. When we visited the background music was Andrews Sisters-era 1930s swing jazz.
