With glowing reviews in all the architecture magazines, this first Osaka branch of Blue Bottle is a stylish space in which to enjoy a serious cup of coffee. The upper level is illuminated by a virtual skylight displaying a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. During the evening the entire floor is bathed in blue light, to striking effect.
The rest of the interior, designed by Tokyo-based studio I IN, is quite impressive as well. On the ground floor there's a burnished stainless-steel wraparound counter where the baristas prepare coffee, and pretty blue-glass ledges where you can rest your coffee. A glass chandelier over the stairwell is hung with coffee-colored spheres, somewhat reminiscent of a planetarium display.
Blue Bottle offers a wide range of espresso beverages, drip coffees and cold brew. Snacks include waffle-centered brunch plates, granola bowls and assorted desserts. Beans are available to take home, and staff will help you navigate the choices. Note that the cafe can be very popular on weekends, so plan accordingly.
