No visit to Nagoya is complete without an order of ebi-fry - deep-fried prawns - and Ebidote is a great place to experience this beloved local dish. Plump jumbo prawns with a thick, crunchy coating arrive fresh from the deep fryer here, ready to be slathered with home-made tartar sauce or dipped into the shop's special dote-miso sauce. Their secret sauce recipe is based on locally produced red miso, with shrimp parts added for extra flavor.
The Ebidote Kushi Moriawase comes with four skewers of prawns, four skewers of deep-fried seasonal vegetables, raw cabbage and a dish of dote-miso that you heat up at your table. You can add on rice, pickles and miso soup for a small extra fee. Other menu options include hefty stacks of ten or fifteen prawns, prawn and unagi eel platters, and extra-large prawns measuring up to 35cm.
