Stretching a couple of city blocks, the sprawling basement food hall at Mitsukoshi is a worthy sightseeing stop on any tour of Fukuoka. Ready-to-eat prepared foods cover a wide range, from kushiage and yakitori skewers to Chinese dumplings.

At the "grocery" end of the floor, dozens of small kiosks sell fresh-baked pastries and bread, fresh produce, perfectly formed melons and other fruit, and premium-grade meats and seafood. You'll also find packaged candies, Japanese-styles sweets and crackers, and a wall of curries from all over Japan.
