Okinawa meets South Asia at one-of-a-kind Japanese curry shop Qwachi Spice Yukuru. The exciting original curries here are built on premium Okinawan pork and other island ingredients, with well-balanced flavors and solid spice mixes.
The special Tida Soki Curry is highly recommended; it comes with tender slabs of braised pork along with a rich, spicy roux and sharp red onion slivers. The mild Butayon Keema Curry uses four different cuts of Okinawan pork, all with different textures, while the Brown Sugar Kashmir is a spicy pork curry livened up by Okinawan brown sugar. Butter Soki Curry incorporates richly flavored Okinawan soki (pork belly cartilage) and butter.
The shop's traditional kissaten-style dining room is furnished with comfortable sofas as well as counter seats, and lively pop music plays in the background. There's a ticket machine for ordering, but no English menu. Take-out is available for some but not all curries.
