Past winners of the Kanda Curry Grand Prix contest, this small chain of curry shops is known for their richly flavored, vegetable-heavy European-style curries. Their basic curry recipe incorporates apples, bananas and mangoes as well as numerous vegetables, added to a beefy roux that's been seasoned with twenty spices, then aged over the course of four days.
Mixed-vegetable curry and avocado-cheese curry are the shop's top recommendations, and optional toppings include menchi-katsu (fried pork patties) and cream croquettes. Most curries are priced in the Y840-890 range. In case the Moto-Yawata location isn't convenient, 100 Hours has fifteen other branches in the Tokyo-Chiba area, including Kanda, Koenji and LaLaPort Tokyo Bay in Toyosu.
This book will introduce you to more than twenty of Japan's favorite specialty foods that are less well known abroad, along with a guide to the best places in Tokyo to try them and expert tips on what to order. From Bento.com.
