A prefectural antenna shop specializing in food and drink from Nara Prefecture. The shop encompasses a small cafe area in front serving somen and udon noodles, Nara-style sushi, and sweets; a tiny art gallery in back; a tourist information desk; a large area selling local crafts, and a small food and drink section.
During an early-autumn visit we found a good deal of fresh produce - onions, persimmons, leeks and lots of greens, eggplants, and peppers. Sake is sold mostly in small 300ml bottles, with over twenty varieties available. Other foods include Nara's famous narazuke pickles (some eight varieties), dried noodles, miso, and take-out sushi (from Y630).
This book will introduce you to more than twenty of Japan's favorite specialty foods that are less well known abroad, along with a guide to the best places in Tokyo to try them and expert tips on what to order. From Bento.com.
